The Races

Apart from the Spud & Spoon races, races start at Moat Farm Close, Greenfield and finish at The White Hart, Flitton. You can run the whole mile yourself or split the distance in a relay team of four. The potatoes are kindly provided by Isle of Ely Produce.

Key Timings

  • 10:00 -11:30 Race registrations for all runners (including Spud and Spoon) at The Village Hall. 

  • 11:35 Safety briefing for all runners (excluding Spud and Spoon) at The Village Hall.

  • 12:00 - 12:30 Races start at Moat Farm, Greenfield.

  • 12.40 Spud & spoon races start from Village Hall and Sand Road, Flitton.

  • 14:00 approx Prize-giving at The White Hart of prizes & trophies. 

  • 15:00 approx Raffle and competition prize draws

Race categories

There are individual and relay categories available for runners aged 10 and up:

Adult Individual Mile for over 16s @ Midday

  • 20kg for men, £200 first prize, £100 second prize, £50 third prize

  • 10kg for ladies, £200 first prize, £100 second prize, £50 third prize

  • Veterans prizes for the first place Male and Female runners aged 45 or over

  • Entry fee £16 per person (£20 after deadline)

Youth Individual Mile for 10-16 year olds @ 12:10

  • 5kg for 14-16 year olds

  • 2kg for 10-13 year olds

  • Entry fee £8 (£10 after deadline)

Cadet Team Relay for 16-17 year olds @ 12:20

  • Relay team of 4, each runner carrying 10kg for 0.25 mile

  • Sack of potatoes to be carried in single rucksack

  • Open to any organisation, & team can be mixed male/female

  • Entry fee £24 per team (£30 after deadline)

Youth Team Relay for 10-16 year olds @ 12:20

  • Relay team of 4, each runner carrying 2kg or 5kg for 0.25 mile

  • 5kg for 14-16 year olds

  • 2kg for 10-13 year olds

  • Teams can be mixed male/female

  • Entry fee £24 per team (£30 after deadline)

Adult Team Relay for over 16s @ 12:30

  • Relay team of 4, each runner carrying 20kg or 10kg potatoes for 0.25 mile

  • Teams can be mixed but only a full ladies team will qualify for the 10kg weight

  • Veterans relay category - all runners must be aged 45 or over - 10kg bag

  • Entry fee £40 per team (£50 after deadline)

Spud & Spoon Races for children aged 9 & under @ approx 12:40

  • Course for 6-9 year olds starts at the village hall

  • Course for under 6s starts at the bottom of Sand Road

  • Entry fee £5

  • Goodies bag for all who finish (limited availability - book in advance to ensure you get one!)
